Gruyère takes its name from the stitch it comes from. La Gruyère is one of the 7 districts of the Swiss canton of Fribourg. In fact, the first reference to this particular cheese dates back to the year 1115. Gruyère may only be made according to a traditional recipe.
This beautiful Swiss cheese may also only be called Gruyère if it is made in the La Gruyère region and according to a traditional recipe. Since 2011, this unique regional product has been protected with the AOC label.
