Emmental grated
The origin of this world-famous hole cheese lies in Swiss Emmental valley in the canton of Bern. In the alpine meadows, where farmers had huge amounts of milk, but lived too far away to trade the milk.
To avoid wasting milk, they chose at the time to process the milk into long-life cheeses. Characterised by its large eyes, the holes in this cheese make it a world-famous hole cheese.
Emmental is also produced in the French Alpine region. The cheese is made with pasteurised milk and has a delicious nutty flavour.
